For “students beyond the standard duration of the program”, “working students”, “parents with children under eight years of age”, “students on maternity leave”, “students enrolled in single courses”, and “students repeating the year” (Art. 23, paragraph 9 of the University Teaching Regulations), it is possible to take exams also during periods designated for classroom or laboratory teaching activities; for second-year students enrolled in Master's Degree programs, it is possible to take course exams in the winter/spring session (March–May).
Public holidays and suspensions decided by the Academic Senate are excluded from the above-mentioned periods.
For each Degree Program and for each course unit, a minimum number of 6 exam sessions per academic year is guaranteed, excluding those reserved for working students, students beyond the standard duration of the program, parents with children under eight years of age, students on maternity leave, students enrolled in transitional single courses, and students repeating the year, which must be no fewer than 2.

On the SAI@UNIPI portal, you can find the teaching materials, test schedule, and registration procedures, along with a general overview of the SAI course modules, the mandatory requirements, and the contact persons and/or units available to students.
Recording of results happens “automatically”; no registration on the paper grade book is required, only the recording of the qualification on the Alice portal. Within 14 days from the date of passing the test, the qualification should be visible on your online grade book; otherwise, students are advised to contact the IT Skills Help Desk.
If you hold an ECDL Start (European Computer Driving License) or ICDL Base (International Certification of Digital Literacy) certificate, you can request recognition for IT Skills (3 CFU). To obtain the recognition, you must fill out the form at the following link, or scan the QR code.
After verifying the certificate you submitted, we will directly record the activity; you do not need to do anything else. We will send you an email only if the certificate you uploaded is deemed invalid.
It is possible to take the qualification in any European Union language.
Once this qualification has been achieved, the positive result is automatically recorded in your academic record by the Student Offices.
If you hold a certification issued by an Entity Recognized by the CLI (https://www.cli.unipi.it/certificazioni-internazionali) that proves the possession of the language proficiency required for the degree, you can request validation of the activity by filling out the form at the following link or by scanning the QR code.

WHAT IS THE TOLC-AV FOR?
Admission to Food Sciences is open, and there is no selection process. However, it is mandatory for you to take a test to assess your preparation. This test is called TOLC-AV. We use the results of this test to check if you have any knowledge gaps (OFA—Additional Learning Obligations) in Chemistry. Therefore, the TOLC-AV is not for enrollment purposes, but taking it is compulsory. If you do not pass the Chemistry section, you will receive an OFA (debt) that you must clear as soon as possible; otherwise, you will not be allowed to take second and third-year exams.
HOW DO I CLEAR AN OFA?
You must attend a "Chemistry 0" course, at the end of which there will be a test. If you do not pass it, you can retake it in subsequent sessions. There is one "Chemistry 0" exam date scheduled every month.
HOW AND WHERE CAN I TAKE THE TOLC-AV?
- Check the TOLC-AV calendar for the dates of interest; you can register for those marked as "OPEN REGISTRATION" (ISCRIZIONI APERTE).
- If there are no available dates on the TOLC calendar, if seats are sold out, or if registrations are closed at the University of Pisa, you can take the TOLC at a different University. In fact, the TOLC can be taken at any University, and you can use the scores obtained for all degree programs that require the TOLC-AV (watch the tutorial "Advantages of the TOLC").
- For more information on test registration, consult the TOLC-AV page.
- The knowledge required for the TOLC-AV is listed on the following page: https://www.cisiaonline.it/tematic_area_agri/il-test/syllabus/
WHAT SHOULD I STUDY TO PASS THE TOLC-AV?
- Biology: 8 questions, 16 minutes
- Chemistry: 8 questions, 16 minutes
- Physics: 8 questions, 16 minutes
- Mathematics: 8 questions, 16 minutes
- Logic: 8 questions, 16 minutes
- Reading Comprehension: 2 passages (10 questions), 20 minutes
IF I TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER DEGREE PROGRAM, DO I NEED TO TAKE THE TOLC?
You are exempt from the TOLC only if you have been admitted directly to the second or third year of Food Sciences. To this end, a formal request for a preliminary career evaluation must be submitted, as outlined in the "Admission" menu.
- Request to start the final project via the DiSAAA-a Atlante Portal at least 30 days before the start date of the graduation session for Bachelor's Degree programs. If this deadline is not met, the student WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GRADUATE and will be postponed to the next available session.
- Graduation application on the Alice Portal within 30 days of graduation (link for more information)
- Application to enroll in the graduation session on the DiSAAA-a Atlante Portal, no later than 15 days before the start date of the chosen graduation session
